I am a caregiver for my parents. It is a role that showcases all my superpowers and flaws. I (and Minnie) live with my mom and her dog in her house. My dad passed in June of 2023. There have been many times I have felt inhabited by his ghost. Maybe as my mom gets closer to her transition he is less demanding. There is so much of our lives shaped by our loved ones – that the conversations and opinions have a length well beyond the physical form.
I like to go for walks, and find new places especially necessary. Wintergreen falls is more an oldie but goodie for me. A cool spot for a warm day.
So much is myopic for my mother and i. Her life barely ventures beyond the house. My life is timed between morning and evening medications and acute scenarios that demand vigilance. We look at each other through the haze of being elderly and find the places where we have always met and share the humor that is surprisingly whole and dark and witty.
